African Lion vs Black Bear

The average size Black Bear is 430 lb. They have been known to exceed 600 lb in some cases. The African Lion averages 420 lb and has been known to surpass 550 lb.


I go with the lion on this one. This is not a Brown Bear, and it will not be able to stand against a charging lion. Further more, the Black Bear is normally dosile while the lion is far more aggressive. And unlike the Brown Bear, the Black Bear does not have a size and strength advantage over the Lion.

There is old 1972 movie called "Napoleon and Samanthat". Jody Foster was in it. Anyway, the movie will come out on DVD July 6th.

The movie has a recorded fight between the lion and black bear, fully grown. The lion chased the bear off after beating it.

ive heard at a circus a lion got out and went after a black bear and the lion had to be put to sleep from its inguries and the bear hardly got hurt

Dude, you don't get it. A lion tackles!!!! And while a Brown Bear is big enough to withstand that, a Black Bear is not. The lion will charge it and knock it down, then go for the bite. A black bear has trouble wiht cougars most of the time, yet alone a lion.

ohh, ok...the black bear would still win, im tellin u..a lion charges but after that...the bear got incredible power, im talkin fatal blows...i think after the bear smacks the lion it would be over. Think what it did to the car on AFO, i think it would kill a lion too in one fatal blow...charging lion so what, doesnt mean its over

wow usually people debate with references and evidence and logic not just there own opinions. usually ur own opinion makes up who will win and then the evidence is for the reasons but i see none of you doing any of that.

first of all male lions are more massivly build in the forearms than other cats because there more prone to fighting than other cats.. (this is common knowledge) if u didnt know this perhaps u should brush up alittle before stepping into the ring


who the hell thinks agressiveness doesnt matter? if this is u you are an idiot... agressiveness is half the battle hence the qoute not size of the dog in the fight but the fight in the dog.

Fatal blow with black bear! ha! in animal attack files webpage there was a black bear attack on a dog.. the bear was only 250 pounds but the dog was condsiderably smaller (as dogs go) and the owner shot the bear because the bear hit the dog on the head. and didnt exactly crush his skull infact i dont think as i remember the dog even needed a trip the the vet.

i dont know why people are always assuming that cats arent strong compared to other animals such as bears? i think it was the most exteme that said a tiger (granted not a lion but similar) can jump over a 6 foot fence with a cow thats how strong they can be... a big grizzly is defintly stronger than a tiger or lion but were talking about the grizzlys much less ferousious smaller cousin the black bear.
