I'm just wondering. I know, this isn't a real Animal Face-Off match. **EDIT** Voting for lion (of course ;D).

It depends on the species and size of the bear.
A male Kodiak Brown Bear can reach up to 1700 lb.
A male Grizzly is between 300 to 850 lb, with some going up to 1000 lb.
An average male lion is 420 lb. A Grizzly is commonly in an upper 600 lb range.
I think the bear would win. It's built to tough for the lion.

I would have to agree that a grizzly can beat a lion 90% of the time. But i bet a smart lion could take down a slightly larger grizzly. A stupid lion would try to take a big grizzly head on but a smart one would avoid/surprise it. If it had the element of surprise it think it could beat the grizz 70% of the time.

How stupid of u guys to make a match between a lion and......a grizzly??? Come on!!! Grizzlies are too powerful, a powerful smack wouldve killed any big cat. A grizzly would win 90%, I agree

A much more compatible fight is a lion vs a black bear. That would be closer. My money is on the lion on that.

The black bear would still win, it would stand ready and i guarantee u, it would deliver a powerful smack. Black bears are still too strong for the lion. I saw a tiger lookin for food, and it found an asiatic black bear. I thought the tiger would kill it cuz the bear looked too small, but instead the bear stood up ready and the tiger backed off and left the other way.
Asiatic black bears are very similar to the american black bear. They both stand 6 feet, only the american is heavier

Big deal, a tiger backed down. Tigers are not fighters and avoid confrontations. Lions will not.
Lions have no fear and have been known to kill EVERY large game animal in Africa. There are records and footage of them bringing down adults in species like giraffes, hippos, rhinos, and even elphants.
The Black Bear rarely reaches the 600 lb mark. A male lion will tear it appart. Lions charge and tackle. And unlike the 1500 lb Kodiak Brown Bear, the little Black Bear would be knocke right off his feet by a charging 500 lb cat.
The Black Bear would lose. The only way you beat a cat is with a massive size advantage. The Black Bear would have 100 lb at the VERY best.

U kiddin me?? Black Bears are generally heavier than lions first of all, but do u even know how powerful its arms are?? God help u, the lion wouldve been in a concussion after one big smack. It has more strength, did u see dat big rock the bear just turned?? Great strength. Besides, the black bear is a smart animal. Smart enuff to take down a lion. Bears arent stupid.

I can picture a lion standin and boxin with the bear, the lion tries to bite it, but the black bear hits the lion with the powerful arms and the lion backs down, the bear standin ready. Sounds real, i think

The lion isn't going to challenge the bear to a boxing match. The bear does have more powerful paws, but that won't be enough. Besides, I've seen enough footage when a mere Cougar drives away Black Bear much larger than itself.
The average size Black Bear is 430 lb. Go and look it up if you don't believe. They have been known to get up to 600 lb in some cases. The African Lion averages 420 lb and has been known to surpass 550 lb.
A male lion can drag a fully grown buffalo of over 1000 lb. Trust me, the bear does not have a size and strength advantage that you are thining of. Further more, this is not a Brown Bear. The lion will easily take it down in a charge and tackle. The bear does not have a chance at stopping a charging lion. Further more, a male lion is more aggressive than a dosile Black Bear. The lion will win this fight.

what ya talkin abt?? The lion will have to charge the bear but the bear smacks it. What else, how will a lion beat a black bear if it has to STAND to fite?? Dont forget they stand six feet tall, so the lion will have to stand up to fite this animal. But the bear is taller with more powerful arms, will likely take it down
